THE PROBLEM - DIABETES the problem
14.6 MILLION CHILDREN AND ADULTS IN THE UNITED STATES HAVE DIABETES
THREE TYPES OF DIABETES
Type 1 Insulin-dependent diabetes.

The body's own immune system destroys cells that release insulin. This type is diagnosed in children and young adults. A common belief is that this form is incurable due to an irreversible pancreatic disorder which makes the person dependent on insulin injections. Other sources say that the body with a little help, is capable of healing damaged tissues and restore a normal insulin production.
Type 2
Non-insulin-dependent diabetes.

The body can't make enough insulin or respond to insulin properly. This form of diabetes, which has become a common occurrence among American adults, is the result of poor eating habits, alcohol abuse and smoking.

INSULIN IS VITAL FOR LIFE
Insulin is a hormone that allows sugar (glucose) to enter cells in the body where it's used as energy.

Insulin also helps the body to store excess sugar that it can use for energy when it needs it.
and
Gestational diabetes mellitus
(GDM) is a type of diabetes that develops during pregnancy because the body can't produce enough insulin to meet the extra needs of pregnancy.
WHERE DOES THE SUGAR GO?
When the sugar can't get into the cell, it starts to build up in the bloodstream.
This extra sugar in the blood upsets normal body functions and can lead to serious symptoms and sickness. If the blood sugar remains high for a long period of time, organs may take damage even if no symptoms are present. Eyes, heart, kidneys and feet are commonly affected.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES?
These symptoms have been noted in all types of diabetes:
  • Excessive thirst
  • Extreme hunger
  • Tiredness or fatigue
  • Blurred vision
  • Numbness or tingling in the hands and feet
  • Frequent urination, especially at night
  • Slow healing of wounds
WHAT CAN BE DONE?TYPE 2 DIABETES IS THE MOST COMMON FORM OF DIABETES
Type 2 According to the American Diabetes Association, there are 14.6 million children and adults in the United States who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. But ADA estimates that millions more are affected by the dis-ease.

Being overweight increases your risk of developing type 2 diabetes. As well as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, having family members diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, or if you have had gestational diabetes.
PREVENTING TYPE 2 DIABETES
Fortunately, it is a condition you can prevent! Studies show that just by changing your diet and increasing the level of physical activity, you can return the blood sugar to a normal, healthy range.

The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) concludes that diet and exercise offers a more efficient way of delaying the development of diabetes than medications.

  • Exercise, your body will feel happier and healthier, and you will too!
  • Alkalize your body! Reduce the intake of animal protein, processed foods and sugars.

Fill the fridge with veggies, fruit and whole grain foods.

    Why alkalize?
